The World Series of Poker recently announced its dates for the 2023 spring-summer poker festival in Las Vegas, and also provided information on opportunities for Michigan online poker players to get in on the action.

The 54th annual World Series of Poker returns to the Las Vegas Strip, May 30-July 18. Last year, was the first time the WSOP was held at Paris Las Vegas as well as the soon-to-be Horseshoe (it’s still currently Bally’s). That tournament brought in 197,626 entrants from more than 100 countries with a record-breaking $347.9 million in total prize pool.

WSOP’s Return To Las Vegas Strip

Before its move to the Strip location, which incorporates the two casinos, the World Series of Poker tournament had been held since 2005 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, just west of the Strip. Before that, the WSOP’s historic home was the then Binion’s Horseshoe Casino on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.

“The historic debut of the WSOP on the Las Vegas Strip delivered in a big way, and we’re excited to announce our Summer 2023 dates in time for the holidays,” World Series of Poker senior vice president and executive director Ty Stewart said. “Poker players and fans can now officially mark their calendars and maybe even book their loved ones or themselves a trip to the WSOP as a holiday gift.”

In a news release, the WSOP said reduced room rates are now available across Caesars Entertainment’s Las Vegas resorts during the 2023 WSOP. Guests who book early can secure special rates by visiting www.caesars.com and using the "WSOP23" advanced booking code.

Rates are based on availability and are subject to change. A complete list of rates across all Caesars Entertainment properties can be found on the Reservations page.

Ways For Michigan Poker Players to Enter WSOP

For poker players at online casino Michigan sites, there are several opportunities to get to Vegas for the WSOP on WSOP.com.

WSOP officials listed them:

  • For Michigan, the WSOP runs monthly $10,000 Main Event Seat freerolls on WSOP.com. These are online freerolls where players become eligible for entry into the freeroll by completing the deposit requirement. The Michigan freeroll for December is through this promotion: https://www.wsop.com/promotions/vince-vs-champs-freeroll/mi/
  • Players must make a minimum deposit of $10 with code VINCE or CHAMP by Dec 20. Freeroll is on Dec. 21 and awards one $10,000 WSOP Main Event Seat. This is for new users and existing players.
  • Each month on WSOP there will be a $10,000 WSOP Main Event Seat Freeroll until May 2023.
  • The WSOP will add other satellites into bracelet events in the New Year for both live events and online bracelet events.

In Las Vegas, the granddaddy of them all, the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship, better known as “The Main Event,” begins July 3 with four starting days. Last year, the Main Event drew the second-largest field in the history of live poker, 8,663 entrants with a total prize pool of more than $80 million.

New and Returning WSOP Events

There will be new and returning events this year over the nearly eight weeks of poker playing for folks on Michigan casino apps to pay attention to. One event being reprised is the “Mystery Millions” (May 31), a $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament featuring mystery bounties from $10,000 to $1 million for each knockout, and a $1 million guaranteed first prize through the traditional prize pool.

Last year, Matt Glantz, regarded as one of the best poker players to have not won a WSOP bracelet, partly made up for all that by winning the $1 million bounty.

Some other events on the 2023 calendar are the Seniors Championship (June 21), the Ladies Championship (June 29), and the Colossus, so-named because its $400 buy-in attracts a colossal number of entrants (June 30).

Expect more information on the WSOP in the coming months but for now, more details regarding the schedule are available at www.WSOP.com. The WSOP said that online pre-registration will open after all events have been determined and approved by regulators.
